Prosecuting Attorney

The Prosecuting Attorney is an elected official with a four-year term of office, as provided by the Michigan Constitution. Elections occur at the time of the Presidential election on the partisan ballot.

 

The prosecutor acts as the chief law enforcement official in the County.

 

The Newaygo County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office represents the people of the State of Michigan in criminal prosecutions of violations of State law and County ordinances.  They prosecute Misdemeanor and Felony charges and appear in District and Circuit Court.

 

The prosecutor’s office represents petitioners in neglect and delinquency proceeding in Juvenile Court and may appear in Probate Court on mental health petitions.

 

The prosecutor’s office represents the interest of the public and minor children in domestic relations cases including establishing paternity and child support orders.

 

They may also act as civil counsel for the County Board of Commissioners and other County departments on legal matters.
